Main Title Pitch

I had the opportunity to pitch main title approaches at Elastic for Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone prequel, 1883. The series explores the origins of the Dutton family, as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. The pitch was created at Elastic and directed by Duncan Elms.

Concept one

This concept was an alternate take on the main title for the series original, Yellowstone, and depicts scenes from the characters' journey along the Oregon Trail. Each shot is wrapped in smoke - from gun shots, campfires, cigarettes and conflict - shrouding each scene in the mysteries and harsh realities of the treacherous voyage.

Concept TWO

After more discussions with Taylor Sheridan's team, it was decided that an approach that treated the scenes as tin type photography was preferred. I love how tin types start out inverted, and as they are immersed, the photographed images are revealed - often piece by piece as the liquids seep over them. I wanted to push this visual approach and explore the development process.
